Jessica’s practice focuses on employment advice, employment and commercial litigation and labor law. In the employment arena, she provides strategic advice regarding the establishment of employment policies and procedures and counsels clients on the creation, maintenance and termination of employment relationships, investigations and managing all aspects of the employment relationship. When the employment relationship must end, she assists clients in understanding their obligations with respect to issues such as severance, state and federal employment statutes, and non-competition agreements. If matters cannot be resolved, she is highly experienced in representing clients in federal or state courts across the country on employment and complex civil and commercial disputes. In the labor arena, Jessica has represented companies with the NLRB, labor disputes, arbitrations and contract negotiations.
Jessica is a Minnesota State Bar Association Board Certified Labor and Employment Law Specialist. She also is a certified mediator and arbitrator for resolutions outside the court system. Jessica speaks extensively on employment law and litigation topics and leads multiple seminars each year.
Emily Atkinson joins the firm as an experienced attorney highly skilled in all aspects of civil litigation, from initial pleadings through appeals. Prior to joining Roe Law Group, Emily spent the majority of her legal career serving as trial counsel for Class I railroads, practicing law at the intersection of private corporation, federal regulation, and employee and public safety. Her educational and professional experience demonstrate a natural aptitude for analyzing and applying complex substantive law, proficiency navigating within varied procedural frameworks, and an innate talent for trial and advocacy work.
Emily earned her law degree summa cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. As a student, she was chosen to represent the school in the William E McGee National Civil Rights Moot Court Competition and took full advantage of William Mitchell’s many practical course offerings, including the Immigration and Criminal Appeals clinics. She served as a law clerk for the Honorable Janet N. Poston in the Fourth Judicial District before entering into private practice in 2006.
When she’s not helping clients in the office or advocating on their behalf in the courtroom, Emily spends as much time as possible outdoors, running, skiing, and backpacking the Superior Hiking Trail and National Park trails with her family.
Nicholas Beckman represents organizations large and small in all stages of employment and business-related litigation. He also defends and helps employers navigate through government audits and investigations, including USDOL audits and OSHA investigations. Additionally, Nick advises clients on a variety of day-to-day compliance and employment-related issues and assists them with draft internal policies to meet their business needs.
Nick earned his law degree magna cum laude from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. While in law school, Nick received a CALI Award honoring the highest-scoring student in their respective class, participated extensively with the Minnesota Justice Foundation, and served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Public Policy and Practice. Nick earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN, where he also played varsity baseball.
Outside the office, Nick enjoys playing and watching sports, cooking, and taking his dog to dog parks across the Twin Cities.
Heather Bredeson specializes in employment advice, litigation and labor law. Heather continues her law practice by focusing on helping employers prevent legal disputes before they arise and supporting employers with labor disputes. Heather served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Lawrence R. Johnson in the Tenth Judicial District.
Heather earned her law degree magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School with a concentration in labor and employment law. While in law school, Heather was also a Moot Court Student Director. Heather received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, MN, where she played four years of varsity basketball.
Alex is a seasoned civil litigator with a strong background in employment and business litigation. At Roe Law Group, Alex defends clients of all sizes against employment discrimination and retaliation claims. He also handles matters involving unfair competition issues, such as enforceability of restrictive covenants and misappropriation of trade secrets. In addition, Alex leans on his litigation experience to help employers identify and resolve potential issues before those issues lead to a lawsuit.
Alex earned his law degree magna cum laude from Rutgers School of Law – Camden (now Rutgers Law School) in Camden, New Jersey. As a law student he served as Articles Editor for the Rutgers Law Journal, was a legal writing teaching assistant, and participated in the Rutgers Civil Immigration Clinic. Alex earned his Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Macalester College in St. Paul, MN.
Away from the office Alex enjoys spending time with his family, baking, and biking.
